Improving faith in Allah; Quran recitation during mestruation; Is it sinful to talk to a Non-Muslim?

cloud of faith, interfaith, many religious symbols

Improving Faith in Allah (swt)

How can I constantly improve my faith in Allah or make it stronger. Especially during menstruation periods a woman cannot pray. When i don’t pray i keep forgetting many things or it is harder for myself to remind me of the little things i do to remember Allah. What can i do to improve even during menstruation period?

Is it sinful to help Non-Muslim ex to converting to Islam?

lately i have gained much much more knowledge about Islam ,thanks to Allah and may Allah bless us with more knowledge and wisdom . so i figured that we cannot have relations with a man before getting married . I was with a guy for four years and when i figured this out i broke up with him because i feared Allah. i told him why and about Islam as well . so now he wants to know more bout the religion and i feel as if , being a Muslim i should be informing the non believers about the knowledge i know about Islam . so i still talk to this guy but we made it clear we have no relations anymore .

we dont even talk as friends but we talk as random or normal people u can say . i told him that if u r not interested bout Islam then i don't have a reason to talk to him . very professionally i answer his questions bout Islam . but on the other hand i am a little confused or i fear that i might be committing a sin by doing this or by talking to him even if it as normal people without mixing their feelings in their words . just religion so i want to know what i should actually do with this.

Reading Quran during menstruation

So I’m new to Islamic knowledge although I have always been a Muslim and I heard that we cannot or are not supposed to read the Qur'an during our menstruation period. But some friends say it's fine we can because it says nothing in the Qur'an has mentioned that we have to be clean to read the Qur'an but then I know for most people it is common sense to wudhu before the Qur'an . But then some people tell me that u can read it but not to touch the Arabic words. And some say that I completely cannot read and I really am encouraging myself to read the Qur'an so what I did was I wore gloves n I read the Qur'an I want to know what really is the solution to this . After all people say so many different things about this.

  1. Salaams,

There are many things one can do to stay connected to Allah during a time where prayer is prohibited. You can still zikr, read hadith of the Prophet SAWS or stories of great shaykhs from the history of Islam, watch lectures online from various teachers, listen to nasheeds, or meet with other sisters for fellowship and uplifting discussion of religious topics. There are even some organizations that offer online Islamic courses you can take for free.

Another thing you can do even while menstruating is recite Quran from memory. A lot of people mix up the prohibition of touching the Quran in Arabic form while in a state of impurity with actually reading its content- they are NOT one in the same. If you have any Quran memorized, you can recite it any time. If you want to pull up a Quran site online and recite what you see without touching the screen, this also seems like it would be fine. Or, if you want to use the actual book, you can have someone else (like a friend or child) turn the pages for you as you read. You said you also wear gloves to handle the Quran when in an impure state, and I've heard this is acceptable also because it puts a barrier between the direct contact of your skin and the Arabic lettering itself. Some people use a cloth over their hand, too. Keep in mind that this issue only applies to the Quran in Arabic form. A Quran that has been translated into a different language, and does not have any actual Arabic letters in it, isn't in need of being kept pure.

As far as the issue of talking with your ex, it really is better for you to direct him to a male muslim instructor. Though you have good intentions, it isn't proper for a woman to be interacting with a man unless it cannot be avoided. Not only that, but men understand each other, often the same way women understand each other. Another man would be better equipped to understand your ex's personal concerns and address them from a man's point of view. A lot of times a convert will develop a sort of dependency on the one who brought Islam to them, as far as getting guidance or seeking support for the new challenges they face, and you don't want to be putting yourself in that kind of position with a non-mahram.

  2. Asalamualikum wa rahamthullahi wa barakathuhu

sister amy can you please tell me where is it written that you can recite quran from your memory while you are menstruating??

it is HARAAM to recite quran while you are mensturatin sister you can do many other things 2 get closer 2 Allah like increase zikr, repent sincerely (tawba), increase Durood Shareef but quran recitation is trictly prohibited during periods

    • Salaams,

"Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in al-Fataawa: There is no report saying that she should not read Qur’aan. The hadeeth “No menstruating woman or person who is junub should recite anything from the Qur’aan” is a weak hadeeth, according to the consensus of the scholars who are well-versed in hadeeth. Women used to menstruate at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and if reading was haraam for them as prayer is, this would have been something that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained to his ummah and the Mothers of the Believers would have known that, and it would have been something that they told to the people. But since no one narrated any prohibition concerning that from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), it is not permissible to regard it as haraam, since it is known that he did not forbid that, and as he did not forbid that despite the fact that menstruation was widespread at his time, it is known that it is not haraam."

  3. Salaams,

I invite you to bring proof of your position. The only thing explicitly forbidden is touching Arabic Quran in an impure state. If something is not expressly forbidden, it's allowed. So if you have proof that someone CANNOT recite from memory, please share it.

    • Assalam 3aleykoum Sister Amy,

I am not sure about you but I find it very bizarre that lately there has been many attacks on your posts. From brothers who question your method of salaam to other brothers (who knows? could be the same person with a different identity) questioning your knowledge of the deen as if you were a mufti. I find it very suspicious. You give so much in depth and beautiful advises/help to so many mashaAllah and I respect you.

Please don't let them pull you down into an argument. Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners.''[Abu Dawud].

You my sister, are doing a great job with your service. My opinion is to just ignore them because they will keep bombarding you on each post knowing that you would respond to them.

May Allah reward you for all that you do. Ameen

      Sister In Islam,
      Zahriya

  4. sister amy first of all this ibn taymiyyah is a big salafi scholar so don't believe his words ... in sunni fiqhihii kitab it is strictly prohibited to recite Quraan the only thing you can do is that while going 2 bed you usually recite ayat ul kursi it is read as a protection against evil but as you said we hav many surah's in our mind so you can never read from your memory while menstruating

    • Salaams,

Do you have something against Salafi scholars? That might pose a problem for you, since the staff on this website and the majority of our readers accept the fatwas of reputable "salafi" scholars. If you don't agree with "salafi" ideology, you might want to visit a site that is more particularly in agreement with your personal views.
