I want to be a good Muslim!

good muslim

Assalam - o - Alaikum.

I will be very honest here regarding telling all the issues I have. So, I'm basically a teenager. I used to pray five times a day but now I don't anymore. I want to be a good Muslim. Please, tell me any Dua by which I can pray five times a day and Recite the Holy Quran with a pure Niyat.

How to defeat shaitan?

I get thoughts which cannot be told or said and I, too, don't want to tell these thoughts to anyone. Astaghfirullah, they are not pure at all. I want to get rid off them completely. Any Dua to get rid of these impure thoughts?
Again how to defeat shaitan? Any Dua?

I also disobey my Parents which I really don't want to at all. We were financially upset. More often, my younger Sister fights with me which provokes me. I feel my Mother supports her more which I think she does not.

I am a student as well. I want to do good in my exams. Any Dua to concentrate on my studies and to achieve brilliant grades (first position holder) in exams (and tests)? Also Dua to be a brilliant student (first position holder) throughout the year in the class? I will be In Shaa Allaah giving CIE's exams. Therefore, I want to do great in these exams because these exams give foreign scholarships with a large amount of money. I want to make a world record. Kindly, tell me any Dua for this.

Jazak Allaah Khair.

  1. Hi, U r very young, so there might be some kind of thoughts and dreams which is normal for u , when ur hormone will become balanced u will become very cool and stable , but it will take some time, after some years u will find that u r not so crazy like u r now. Our beloved Prophet SAW became matured at His 40, so Almighty Allah gave Him nabuat/ risaalat or prphethood at that age, before that Prophet SAW was having a very decend life.
Having a decnd life is not impossible, and getting rid of bad thoughts is also possible, if u believe Allah then accept Him also. We usually believe Him but about His commands we show our back and try to escape, that means we believe Him but do not obey Him. So try to balance between your belief and loyalty. It is very hard to get rid of Shaytan, but if u recite ' Auzubillah Himinashshyatanir rajeem" many time , continuously, then Allah might help u too.
Remember it's Allah's wish whom He will purify and whom He will not, but one who has no arrogance and ignorance may get get help from Allah. Just talk to Allah about your prob with humbleness, and try hard to purify ur self . May Allah help u.

You say you want to be a good Muslim, but you seem like one already mashaAllah. For it's only good Muslims who care about their deen and wish to become better. In addition to what is said above by sister Rabiya, following the list below could also help inshaAllah.

      1. Read the Holy Quran and Hadiths (and continuously learn to understand them more and more, as well as to ponder on their meanings). This will lead you to be more firm in your iman in Allah subhanahu wat'ala with knowledge of Him inshaAllah.

      2. Perform the prescribed 5 daily Salats, and perform them on time. This will increase your iman and taqwa and help you to abstain from sinful acts.

      3. Engage yourself with lots of Dhikr (e.g. learning and pondering on the Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah subhanahu wat'ala, and worshiping Him and making du'as by them). This creates special strengths and light in your heart to help you more in abstaining from sinful acts and engaging in good deeds. You may learn and ponder on the following Beautiful Names of Allah to attain much consciousness of Allah (Taqwa). 1. Ar-Raqib (The Watchful). 2. Al-Hafiz (The Preserver). 3. Al-'Alim (The All Knowing, The Omniscient). 4. As-Sami' (The All Hearing). 5. Al-Basir (The All Seeing).

      Allah subhanahu wat'ala says:

''Recite what is revealed to you of the Scripture, and perform the prayer. The prayer prevents indecencies and evils. And the remembrance of Allah (Dhikr in addition to Salats) is greater (in preventing indecencies and evils). And Allah knows what you do.'' (Quran 29:45)

      4. Try practicing to be humble in all your Salats (and in all your dhikr and du'as), and assume closeness of Allah subhanahu wat'ala in them--this will eventually lead you to real closeness of Allah inshaAllah.

      5. Try as much as you can to avoid nonsense or wasting your time in acts or places that do not get you closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

      6. Try as much as you can to devout your free times for charity work (such as being nice to your parents and your little sister and putting a smile on your face for them--and then whenever they hurt you or do something wrong, you try to explain to them politely and firmly till Allah subhanahu wat'ala opens their hearts to realize their errors inshaAllah).

      7. Try as much as you can to safeguard your chastity. Lower you gaze and avoid looking at unlawful things you see while outside, and as well as what you see on TV, magazines, and the internet.

      8. Practice being faithful to your trusts and pledges.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the Holy Quran:

Successful are the believers. Those who are humble in their prayers. Those who avoid nonsense. Those who work for charity. Those who safeguard their chastity. Except from their spouses, or their dependents-for then they are free from blame. But whoever seeks anything beyond that-these are the transgressors. Those who are faithful to their trusts and pledges. Those who safeguard their prayers. These are the inheritors. Who will inherit Paradise, wherein they will dwell forever.
      (Quran 23: 1-11)

      9. Avoid bad friends and associate with only sincere and good friends who practice the deen. In addition to that, it would be helpful to watch and listen to Islamic lectures and lessons about taqwa (ask your parents to buy you some DVDs/CDs, or simply check on you-tube), such as lectures by Sheikh Yusuf Badat and Mufti Menk or watch

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the Holy Quran:

''O you who believe! Be conscious of Allah (Taqwa), and be with the sincere.''
      (Quran 9:119)

      10. Ask Allah for forgiveness (at least 100 or 70 times) everyday.

      Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying." By Allah! I ask for forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6307)

      11. Keep up with morning and evening adhkar and dua's. Please follow this link http://www.zawaj.com/askbilqis/dua-in-islam/morning-and-evening-dhikr-part-2/

      12. Suggested du'as:

''Allahumma a’inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibadatika. (O Allah! Assist me in remembering You, in thanking You, and in worshipping You in the best of manners).''

[Sahih Ahmad 5:245, Sahih abu Dawud 2:86, an-Nasa'i]

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate:

"Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-'afafa, wal-ghina (O Allah! I beseech You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment)."

      (By Sahih Muslim)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would supplicate:

"Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-harami, wa 'adhabil-qabri. Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkiha Anta khairu man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa maulaha. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfau', wa min qalbin la yakhsha'u, wa min nafsin la tashba'u, wa min da'watin la yustajabu laha'

[O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the inability (to do good), indolence, cowardice, miserliness, decrepitude and torment of the grave. O Allah! Grant me the sense of piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the knowledge which is not beneficial, and from a heart which does not fear (You), and from desire which is not satisfied, and from prayer which is not answered]."
      [By Muslim].

''Yaa Hayyu, yaa Qayyumu, bi-rahmatika astagheethu. Aswlih lee sha'nee kullahu, wa laa takilnee ilaa nafsee torfata ‘ayn. (O the Living, O the Eternal, I seek help in Your grace. Set right all my affairs, and give me not over to my self even for as little as wink of an eye).''

      (By Mustadrak al-Haakim vol.1 pg.545; Shu'ubul Iemaan of Imaam Bayhaqi Hadith No.:760, 761)

      • ''Allahumma a’innee ‘alaa dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibaadatika. (O Allah! Assist me in remembering You, in thanking You, and in worshipping You in the best of manners).''

[Sahih Ahmad 5:245, Sahih abu Dawud 2:86, an-Nasa'i]

You may say this du'a after every salah inshaAllah. This is according to Sunnah.

May Allah subhanahu wa wata'la help you and us all. Ameen.
