Taking Oath on The Quran

Taking Oath on The Quran

Assalam Alaikum,

I am 22 years old. An incident happened in my life about 3 yrs ago. I was in a relationship with a girl. One day I told my mother about her. But my mother told me you are going to wrong track then she took Quran and told me that by touching Quran, I have to tell that I will forget her. Hearing this I got afraid and also became depressed. At this moment, I could not make a decision what should I do. But finally, I touched Quran and promised that I will forget her. At this time, I also promised that I will not marry any girl in my entire life. After some days, i discussed this matter with my Islamic teacher. Then he told me I need to feed ten poor people or the average amount of money distributed among them. He told May Allah to forgive you. Next day I distributed money among 10 people. But still now I am depressed and doubted about it. Please tell me clearly will I marry in my entire life or not?

  1. mothers are emotional blackmailers and these days they do it by forcefully get the son or daughter to take oath on Quran.
you can marry anyone under islamic law. you did the kuffara right. never ever take oath on Quran for such actions please. no matter what!

  2. Brother

You yourself said that you wont marry any OTHER girl at the time of taking OATH on Quran
And later you are asking WILL YOU EVER MARRY in your entire life or not.

Thats so Paradoxical brother. Earlier you took oath that you dont want to marry any other girl, now you are asking if you will ever marry.

Make up your own mind first. You want to marry or you dont want to marry.

  3. This surah has your answer, gotta love Allah and how he knows what you will do and gives you an answer before you even have a problem :):
    Sahih International
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful.

  4. Adi bin Hatin At-Ta'i (r.a) said : I hear the Messenger of Allah (s.a) say: "He who has taken an oath (to do something) but found something else better than that (which brings him closer to Allah), then he SHOULD do that which is better in piety (and should expiate for the breaking of oath)"

If you took an oath to not to marry any girl in life and if not marrying takes you to haram and illicite relations and become an obstacle for you piety, according to this hadees, you can break the oath and need to expiate for breaking which you already paid. There is an option of 60 days of continuous fasting or the one which scholar suggested you.

Further, There is an opnion that if the oath was taken forcefully, then it will not be valid. Yet lets not consider the opinion. Take the decision as per the above hadees and increase you good deeds and make thowba to allah. He will forgive you, remember YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE KIND ALLAH.
