Islamic marriage advice and family advice

I have wasted all my life in sin; I want to be reborn and start from scratch.

Repent before the Day when Allah will Question you

Repent before the Day when Allah will Question you

Aslam o alikum,

I reached this website when i was searching answers to some questions. Masha ALLAH found very satisfactory and detailed answers of what i had in my mind with question marks.

Hence i am not in my homeland and having a tough job which eats up my whole day and makes it really very hard to get the Islamic teachings and to find and meet persons who have been blessed by ALLAH with knowledge of Islam and who could get me on the straight path, the way of ALLAH,

I am hopeful that I'll get helped by this community of Muslim brothers and sisters to start walking. I am really confused, ashamed and guilty, unable to say the details of my past. I am turning 26 soon and i totally wasted spending all these years in a life full of sins.

I have been telling lies, i have been consuming alcohol, i have been watching porn, I have been very far from offering prayers and reciting Quran. Even i have forgotten to read Arabic in Quran. Infact I know only three sins which ALLAH has saved me from (Shirk, Zina and Murder of someone)

I cannot even count but everything except these which could be considered bad or sins, have been in my practice for years. Allah has always been so kind on me that i've not been punished by him ever yet. I want to reborn. i don’t want His punishment. I do not want to burn in the fires of hell. i wish that i could reborn. I will have to start from scratch.

i want to start with very basics of Islam as i have been ignorant and away from all the practices for more than a decade. i am not too good with internet searches and finding specific and to the point information. Pleas post me links of threads which i could go through with, to start a new life.

Please direct me to the links which could give me knowledge of Tawbah, Asking forgiveness for my past, Prayers and how to read Arabic in Quran and the practices which a good Muslim must have..

Jazak Allah

  1. Salaams,

Upon reading your post, I thought of the perfect nugget for you that our chief editor Wael posted just yesterday on Facebook under his page "I Love Islam". He wrote:

"Unhappy with the way you've lived your life, and the choices you've made? Wish you could be born again? You can. It's called tawbah. Ramadan. Hajj. Wudu, salat, sawm. Islam offers us so many ways to be purified, to start over, to be better human beings, to live up to our potential. Take control of your life and your happiness, make a change, and ask Allah for help."

He's right, all of these things wipe out the regrettable things we've done. If you are looking for a way to learn arabic for recitation, it's best you try to locate a local scholar or masjid for lessons. It's not something you can simply learn by reading online, because pronunciation is important. There are plenty of websites that teach how to do tawbah if you google it. But quite honestly, the best way to stay on the path to obedience is to surround yourself with fellow muslims and stay connected to your local Islamic community/masjid/mosque.

  2. Assalamualaikum,

Brother/Sister, you were being deceived by Shaitaan, but now Allah Has shown you that you are astray and you need to seek an entry back to the Straight Path.

This life is one life, which will decide our Reward in The Hereafter. The Reward could either be Jannah or Jahannam.

I'll begin with a Hadith Qudsi:

Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) said, "Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious, said; 'O My slaves, I have prohibited Myself injustice; and have made oppression unlawful for you, so do not oppress one another. O My slaves, all of you are liable to err except the one whom I guide on the Right Path, so seek guidance from Me so that I will guide you to the Right Path. O My slaves, all of you are hungry except the one whom I feed, so ask food from Me, I will feed you. O My slaves, all of you are naked except those whom I clothe, so ask clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My slaves, you commit sins night and day and I forgive all sins, so seek My forgiveness and I shall forgive you. O My slaves, you can neither do Me any harm nor can you do Me any good. O My slaves, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any man of you, that would not increase My domain a thing. O My slaves, were the first of you, and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any man of you, that would not decrease My domain in a thing. O My slaves, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to stand in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decrease the sea if put into it. O My slaves, it is but your deeds that I reckon for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good (i.e., in the Hereafter) praise Allah and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself.'''. [Muslim]

Subhanallah! Does it not seek like this Hadith is for you? People who sin, and spend their lives in sin, Allah Can Forgive it all if He Wills. Sincere Tawbah is what is required.

Consider the most corrupt person on Earth who commits the wort sins of all Human Beings. If every Human Being from Adam Alaihis Salam to the last one no Earth were to be like this corrupt man, Our Lord, Allah Has more Forgiveness and Mercy than that. Subhanallah!

You have certainly wronged yourself, but this is not the end, you are not dead yet, are you? The Doors of Tawbah are open for you, until you die or until the run rises from the west.

You need to do Tawbah. For that, you have to fulfil it's conditions, which are:

    1. Leaving the sins immediately.
    2. Feeling guilty of having committed the sins.
    3. Resolving never to repeat the sins.

I don't know he you have stopped what you have been doing. If you haven't, then you should hurry. If you need help in doing so, take it.

You already feel guilty for your sins, so condition 2 is hopefully met. Then you show resolve never to repeat the sins, so that your Tawbah is complete.

Alhamdulillah, you should thank Allah that He Saved you from Shirk, which is the wort of all sins, which Allah does not Forgive, he Tawbah was not done. But otherwise, every son of Adam is a sinner, and the best of there sinners are the ones who repent, according to a Hadith.

“The heart is like a bird; Love is the
head, and the two wings are hope and fear.” Madaarij as-Salikeen by Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

This is a beautiful statement. love Allah, along with Fear of His Punishment and Hope in His Mercy.

'Allah divided mercy ine to 100 parts
and he kept 99 parts with himself, and sent down one part on the earth, and because of that one single part, his creation are merciful to each other,so that even the mare lifts up its hoof away from its calf, lest it should trample on it.
    '(Bukhari)

Subhanallah! This is How Merciful Allah Is. An Aayah regarding Tawbah:

Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)!
Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
    surah as zumar, Aayah 53.

According to the Sahabi Abdullah bin Mas'ood Radiyallahu Anhu, this is the most hope inspiring aayah of the Quran.

Subhanallah, my brother/sister, your sins are many, but they are nothing before the magnitude of Allah's Mercy. Seek from it and in sha Allah, you'll be as if you were just born.

If you have money, then learn how to do Hajj correctly according to the Sunnah and go for Hajj.

If you require any help in learning, you can ask us, in sha Allah.

    May Allah accept our Tawbah.
    Aameen.

  3. Salaam Brother in Islam,

Say Alhamdulilaah that Allah gave you the heart and mind to realize where you stand about the Hearafter.
Say Alhamdulilaah that He gave you another day to Repent.
Say Alhamdulilaah that he saved you from the major sins(Shirk, Zina and Murder of someone) though lying and alcohol is one of the major sins .
Say Alhamdulilaah that the doors to Allah forgiveness is always open no matter who you are, where you are and the time it is.

Don't wait brother for another to Repent, you have this chance now, REPENT Now, this minute, this second. Make Wudu ( ablution) and pray 2 rakah. promise yourself that will pray 5 times a day despite the obstacles that come your way.

Thank Allah every minute you have. Say Tasbeeh and Istighfar while at work.
Praise your Lord while standing, sitting and laying down.

Quit your friends if they are not people of the Masjid. Start your life fresh and start over with a clean heart. Leave all your worries to Allah and Put Your Trust in Him.

Start Praying immediately. do voluntarily fast. Pay Sadaqa and help your fellow Muslims in need.

Also, Today is Friday, the Prophet PBUH said, there is an hour on Friday that if one makes Du'a, his Du'a will be accepted,. so make as much Du'a specially at the time of Asr prayer.

Stop listening to music. Start listening to Qur'an with it's translation (its all over Youtube) and Islamic lectures, download from online or buy it from Islamic stores. destroy all the bad things in your life that will distract you from becoming a Practicing Muslim.

I pray that you find your way easy Insha'allaah. May Allah give you the strengths and the power to overcome the desires and the temptations of the Shataan.

  4. dear farahmed,

    asalamalaikum,

alhamdulillah Allah saved you from commtting major sins ( of which shirk is the biggest)

Infact I know only three sins which ALLAH has saved me from (Shirk, Zina and Murder of someone)

feel special that Allah is guiding you back to the right path. remorse over sins is mportant but dont waste a lot of time in regret.

certain events ( majority were sins) in my life brought me close to Allah. i can only tell you what i did, may be in it help you. iam a bit like you , internet search is a bit frustrating effort for me as i get really confused whether hat iam reading is right or not.seconly because of coming across many 'islamic looking ' people who were soooooo hypocrites that my view was that if you become religious you become like these people.

first start with placing your trust in allah that He will guide you and make this path easy for you , but takinmg first step is upto us. secondly reading quran with translation with best intentions to understand it and try to incorporate in your life what you read. there is no point in understanding the quran but not implying it in day to day dealings. keeping your tongue busy with zikr. also listening a lot of lectures by learned people or someone whos words make more sence then others. yasmin mogahed, suhaib webb, shaykh omar suleiman, ustad noman etc are among the many who are serving allah and helping many stick to the path.

coming to this website has also immensely helped me. reading different peoples point of view ,sometimes straighforward ,honest and blunt but thats whats needed at times.

you walk to towards Allah , He runs towards you..... thats how it works.
May Allah make it easy for you.
